Our Church's Outreach Projects

Those projects listed here are formal,
on-going programs of our church's
reaching outward.
But we know that every day our members
reach out in dozens of Christlike efforts,
every one of them important.

In spite of its aggressive name, OA is a cooperative, 18-congregation ministry of which St. Augustine's is a long-time member. Think food and clothing. OA's mission is to counteract the damaging forces of poverty -- by providing a dependable and flexibleresponse for low-income families with children who have been referred by partnering organizations.  Under the stewardship of the Lakeview Presbyterian Church. Operation Attack is supported entirely by donations from churches, individuals and organizations. Great website: http://www.operationattack.org

For over eight years Your Place has been a principal outreach project for St. Augustine's.  Indeed, it is the first major social service ministry in this diocese since St. Petersburg's  Resurrection House.

Your Place is our Day Shelter for young adults ages 14 to 24.  It's a place of hope and life -- a location to develop personal, leadership and employment skills.  Your Place is a kind of 3/4 House -- designed to help young people ease back into the community.

Not far from St. Augustine's is a state facility for young men who are paying their debt to society.  Members of our church have been ministering to these youths every Wednesday for over nine years.  Scheduled study sessions, counseling and mentoring have brought some extraordinary turnarounds here. Occasionally some of the young men attend our Sunday service.

F. A.S.T. is a community organization that focuses on justice issues.
Faith and Action for Strength Together brings the power of over 30 churches to develop action strategies in Pinellas County.  The multi-denominational group, often comprising over 600 people, addresses poverty, crime, housing, sickness and environmental concerns. Members listen, study, reflect and then create large public actions that hold public decision-makers accountable.
